1. Two distinct tiers of directory profiles
Every facility profile on findingrehab.io belongs to one of two clearly labeled verification states:
- Baseline directory listings ("Listed", 17,000+ profiles): Compiled from public treatment directory records, SAMHSA's FindTreatment.gov locator and 2025 national directories, the CMS National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES / NPI registry), and official program websites. Baseline listings are published to help families see the full landscape of care in each state and city, and each profile clearly states what we have not yet independently verified.
- Verified by findingrehab.io profiles: Facility profiles where our team has checked the program's regulatory license or registration with the governing authority, checked applicable national accreditations, confirmed leadership or ownership records, and verified a direct admissions line on the date shown on the profile (for example, Verified by our team on 20 Oct 2026).
2. Primary-source verification protocol for Verified profiles
Before a profile displays the Verified by findingrehab.io badge, our team completes and records the following checks:
- Regulatory licensing or statutory registration:
- For United States programs, we confirm active state behavioral health or substance use treatment licensure with the relevant state authority (such as the California Department of Health Care Services, Colorado Behavioral Health Administration, Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, or Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services), along with any active LegitScript certification on file.
- For United Kingdom programs, we confirm Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration status (distinguishing location-level registration from CQC provider-group registration where applicable).
- For South Africa programs, we confirm registration with the National Department of Health, Department of Social Development, and Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) practice numbers.
- For Thailand programs, we confirm Ministry of Public Health licensing and Department of Business Development (DBD) corporate registration.
- National accreditation (when held): When a US facility holds Joint Commission or CARF accreditation, we record the accrediting body alongside its state license. Where a verified facility is state-licensed without separate national accreditation, the profile states its state licensure directly without implying national accreditation.
- Direct intake phone verification: We confirm that the published phone number connects to the facility's own admissions team (or, where a program participates in our call-analytics forwarding line, that our dedicated number rings the facility's direct admissions line and that the facility's own direct number is also printed on the profile). Known third-party call routers and lead-broker tracking numbers are blocked.
3. Self-reported availability and 30-day freshness window
Bed availability changes quickly. Programs that claim their profile in the provider portal can self-report whether they are currently accepting new patients, maintaining a short waitlist, or asking families to call to confirm availability.
- We never invent or default an "Accepting new patients" status for a facility that has not reported one.
- Every self-reported status displays the exact date the program updated it.
- Self-reported availability badges automatically expire after 30 days unless the program re-confirms or updates its status in the provider portal.
4. Directory ordering, partnerships, and editorial independence
Below the clearly badged Verified by findingrehab.io showcases on state and specialty pages, the full state directory sorts alphabetically by facility name, by city, or by straight-line ZIP code distance. Our concierge tool ranks programs strictly by how many of a visitor's clinical and coverage answers match the facility record, followed by distance.
Verified Partner memberships and Sponsored Showcase placements are billed at flat monthly rates in the provider portal, never alter alphabetical directory order, search ranking, or concierge matching, and never charge per call, per lead, or per admission. See how listings work, our editorial policy, and our advertising policy for complete details.
5. Corrections and updates
Programs can claim and update their profiles at no cost in the provider portal. Visitors and clinicians can report a correction, closure, or phone change at any time through our contact page.
