Detox: medical help to get through withdrawal safely.
Residential: live at the program and take part in treatment every day.
Day treatment (PHP): treatment for much of the day, most days of the week, going home at night. PHP stands for partial hospitalization program.
Intensive outpatient (IOP): several hours of treatment a day, a few days a week, while living at home.
Outpatient: regular visits, such as counseling, therapy or medication appointments.
Medication for addiction (MAT): medicines for opioid or alcohol use disorder, used with counseling.

Sober living: a shared home that supports staying sober. Usually not medical care.
